Why All Christmas Music?

Why do you play all Christmas music during the season?
Christmas is one of the few times each year when hearts seem a little more open. People who might not normally tune in to Christian radio will stop and listen because they love Christmas music — and that gives us an opportunity to share hope and the message of Jesus in a gentle, meaningful way.
By playing all Christmas music, we’re creating an environment where friends, coworkers, and family members who may be exploring faith can experience the joy and truth behind the season.
Our goal is simple:
Use the Christmas season as a chance to reach as many people as possible with the hope of Jesus.
I hear songs from artists who may not be Christian. Why include them?
Christmas is a celebration — and many people connect to the season through nostalgic, familiar songs. When someone hears a song they recognize, it becomes a doorway for them to keep listening.
Most of what you’ll hear on Hope 107.9 points clearly to the true meaning of Christmas and highlights the birth of Jesus. We intentionally include a few classic favorites because:
-
They attract new listeners who wouldn’t normally tune in.
-
They remind people of childhood memories and bring comfort.
-
They give us the chance to follow those songs with music that shares the hope of Christ.
Think of these songs as a welcome mat — an invitation for someone to keep listening long enough to encounter the message that matters most.
What about Santa Claus?
Our focus always remains on celebrating Jesus and His birth.
However, the idea of Santa actually began with a real person: St. Nicholas, a follower of Jesus in the fourth century. He was known for quietly giving gifts to children and to those in need — not for recognition, but out of genuine Christian love.
That spirit of generosity still reflects the heart of Christmas today:
A gift given freely. Joy shared freely. Hope offered freely.
Bottom line: What’s the purpose behind all this?
We know not everyone will agree with every programming choice — and that’s okay.
Our mission remains the same:
To share the hope of Jesus with as many people as possible in the Willamette Valley.
Thank you for praying with us, supporting the mission, and choosing to share the hope of Christmas with your community. A Hope Filled Christmas begins November 14th
