Resources for Wildfire Victims

If you have been evacuated, experienced damage or are struggling because of wildfire or smoke, help is available. You do not have to navigate the next steps alone.

  1. Find personalized wildfire assistance
    The Oregon Department of Human Services can connect wildfire survivors with food, shelter and other recovery resources. Call 833-669-0554 anytime; interpreters are available.

  2. Call 211 for local help
    Call 211, text your ZIP code to 898211, or search online for current information about evacuation shelters, transportation, food, clean-air centers, financial assistance, animal services and debris cleanup.

  3. Find a safe place to stay
    Red Cross shelters provide a safe place, meals, essential supplies, health services and emotional support. You can receive services at a shelter even if you do not stay overnight.

  4. Check evacuation information and fire conditions
    Oregon’s Wildfire Response and Recovery website includes evacuation information, an interactive fire map, road and air-quality updates, recovery guidance and other official resources.

  5. Find food assistance
    Oregon Food Bank’s searchable directory can help you locate nearby food pantries, free-food markets and meal sites. Because fires and power outages may change operating hours, call the location before visiting when possible.

  6. Replace food purchased with SNAP benefits
    If food bought with SNAP benefits was destroyed by wildfire or spoiled during a related power outage, you may qualify for replacement benefits. Requests generally must be made promptly, so contact ODHS as soon as possible.

  7. Get help with an insurance claim
    Contact your insurance company as soon as possible, save receipts for lodging, meals and other evacuation expenses, and photograph damage when officials say it is safe. Oregon’s consumer advocates can answer insurance questions at 888-877-4894.

  8. Protect yourself from wildfire smoke
    Check current air quality, limit smoke exposure and learn how to create cleaner air indoors. Children, older adults, pregnant people and those with heart or lung conditions may be especially vulnerable.

    Oregon provides resources for pet and livestock evacuation, animal care, feed assistance and recovery programs for farmers and ranchers affected by wildfire.
