Patience Practice

Normally when my husband and I go somewhere together, I do the driving.  I'm kind of a control freak and he doesn't really like to drive. So, this arrangement works well for us. However, today, he took me to work, and since it's only about a 5 minute drive, I rode shotgun.

A minute or two down the road, we ended up behind a tractor. Please understand, I harbor no resentment toward the tractor in this story or it's driver. Still, this tractor was just c r a w l i n g along this otherwise 45 mph stretch of road.

There was ample time and opportunity for my husband to pass said tractor, but he did not. He felt it would be unsafe. It was a no passing zone, after all. And the tractor was easily going 25 miles per hour, that's plenty fast. Apparently.

For a while I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. But then, I don't know why really, I just started to laugh. I laughed at my husbands sheer determination to not pass that tractor no matter how visibly frustrated I was. And I laughed at just how unhinged I was feeling over something so completely unimportant. I wasn't even late for work. Being behind this tractor had literally zero impact on my life, but I was letting it cause me so much angst.

So, I guess if I had a chance, I might thank that tractor driver for giving me a little laughter and a lesson in patience on my way to work this morning.
