What is the best way to diminish the signs of aging skin?
show answer...A: close answer...There are 2 types of aging: aging caused by the genes we inherit (intrinsic) and those caused by environmental factors such as the sun’s rays (external). While we cannot control our intrinsic factors, we can control some of our external factors by protecting skin from the sun and quitting smoking. I recommend all my patients to: (1) avoid deliberate tanning, (2) seek the shade especially between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., (3) Wear protective clothing, (4) wear sunscreen everyday (even when it rains) with SPF of at least 30, preferably with zinc and (5) wear UV blocking sunglasses. If you are looking for help for aging skin, there are a number of treatments available including: Botox, Juvederm, Intense Pulsed Light therapy, Chemical Peels, and topical agents. These are wonderful treatment options for those with busy lifestyles as they do not involve the inconvenience of a long recovery or trauma associated with a traditional facelift.
